At the beginning of the school year Norðlingaskóli primary school acquired some of the newly designed furniture from AXIS.
We consider this as a test run for some of our new furniture and are watching it closely. They are using the Bylgja multi-table, Lauf chairs, Einrúm high-back sofa, some cabinets and the new Strendingar hexagonal pouffe, all in playful colours.
The" Gotti" Stacking Chair was launced at Designmarch 2013. Since then it has been developed further to include versions with arms and a writing tablet. The backrest material has also been changed to make the chair even more comfortable.
Recently a slightly altered version, developed to better suit the need of the elderly, was chosen by physiotherapists at the Hrafnista Nursing Home in Hafnarfjörður after a thorough testing of chairs on the market.
Gotti Stacking Chair
The Kópavogur Institute of Education (Menntaskólinn í Kópavogi) chose C frame Lauf chairs from AXIS ehf for their new computer study facilities designed by architect Benjamín Magnússon in 2013.
Since its launch in march 2013 the "Einrúm" High-back Sofa has been tested and tried by staff in nursery schools, banks, offices, restaurants and more. So it has really been on the go. After this testing period we are convinced that it works as expected and in june the production was set in full swing.
Here are the firs 10 sofas outside the factory, ready to meet their owners. They will go to - among other places - the restaurant on the main floor of Harpa Concert Hall which received the Mies van der Rohe building prize for 2013 and the Central Bank of Iceland.

The Press and the Web have covered many of the new items Sturla exhibited at Designmarch 2013. Among them are dvell.com (april 2013) - mbl.is (2.3.2013) and mbl.is (25.3.2013). In the press articles have appeared in Morgunblaðið, Fréttablaðið, Fréttatíminn, Frjáls verslun and in the March issue of Hús og hýbýli, Iceland´s foremost homes and design magazine, no less than five of Sturla´s designs where featured.

Above: Judging panel´s remarks on Aría Table Series
It is a great honor to announce that the Aría Table Series has received the FHI Design Award 2013 for best item in the furniture category.
The award, established by FHI (The Icelandic Society of Furniture and Interior Designers), was launced for the first time during DesignMarch 2013. It is to be a triennial event, awarding prizes for design in four categories: three for interior design and one for furniture design.

Aría Table Series was premiered a year ago at Hönnunarmarch 2012 and has been further developed to contain tables of various sizes and a writing desk. A matching sideboard is soon to be introduced.
DesignMarch took place in Reykjavik for the 5th time 2013
With the introduction of twelve new products for four manufacturers DesignMarch 2013 was bound to be an exiting event. Most of the products have been in development since last summer, a relatively short period for so many designs. The last two weeks were hectic with so many small details to sort out and take care of - this is the most rewarding time of the process, seeing the move from drawing/prototype to a final product. Still, there are details in some of the items that need further attention so the job is not entirely finished yet.
It was a real pleasure working with skilled craftsmen towards the common goal of presenting quality Icelandic furniture at the show. We all learned a lot from the process.
Almost 2000 attended the opening in Harpa Concert Hall
With an estimate of almost 2000 people attending the opening night in Harpa and a large number of visitors throughout the whole show it was a great success.
So now it is just a matter of carrying on and looking forward to DesignMarch 2014!
AXIS presented six new designs - Stemma a new line of office tables and screens - Einrúm (english: Solitude) high-back sofa with a low work table - Bylgja (english: Wave) a multi purpose table on wheels - Símaskjól (english: Phone shelter) a wall mounted phone-booth and the Lauf (english: Leaf) stackable multi purpose chair.

Sólóhúsgögn presented the Gotti stacking chair and, in co-operation with G.Á. húsgögn, the Venta sofa and chairs in two heights for waiting rooms and private use with a matching table and ottoman.

Zenus premiered the Kári sofa and chairs, a settee with 50´s touch, and the Domino kidney bean coffee tables which can be used alone or together to make various shapes.
